UCC Global Campus – Exceeding Expectations, Jamaica and Beyond

The mission of the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) Global Campus is to make quality Higher Education a possibility for qualified students globally, regionally and internationally.

The university has developed relationships with a range of strategic partners across the globe that are helping to get the message to prospective students. This, according to Dr. Martin Yousef, Global Campus Director and Director International Recruitment and Enrollment, “is having a very positive impact- exceeding expectations!”

Dr. Yousef noted “it is evident that our wider regional and global outreach is proving very effective and people are taking the time to listen to what we have to say and are finding it pleasing and impressive. We already have applications from the USA, Middle East, West Africa, India and Pakistan.”

He noted that there are a number of countries in which persons do not have access to quality Higher Education due to various challenges including the distance of institutions from their homes and costs of tuition and lodgings. “For them, the UCC Global Campus is extremely attractive because we have local and international institutional accreditation, US programmatic accreditation as well as 100 percent online courses in a variety of disciplines and great flexibility of times.  The new UCC Global Campus offers graduate and undergraduate as well as short professional development programmes which are especially popular with adult students working in a specific area and wanting to improve their knowledge of a particular topic in a short space of time,” he explained.

Dr. Yousef said that “the UCC Global Campus has a host of other advantages including “a highly educated international faculty with real local and international qualifications and experiences who are able to teach in the class what is practiced in the field and thus is translating to very strong interest in courses in the Business sphere, International Relations, Tourism and Hospitality Management amongst several other areas.”

While the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a shortfall in registration at a number of educational institutions locally and overseas, not so at UCC. The institution UCC itself, has seen an increase of online registrations from approximately 5,000 to over 7,000 over the past year and  Dr. Yousef says “the aim of the UCC and new UCC Global Campus is to double registrations to close to 14, 000 by the end of the first quarter in 2022.”
