The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean has developed through institutional growth, international partnerships and continued innovation, creating the foundation from which UCC Global now extends access to learners around the world.
UCC formally emerges
Following the 2002 merger of the Institute of Management Sciences (IMS) and the Institute of Management and Production (IMP), the University College of the Caribbean formally emerged in 2004.
International partnerships and expanded offerings
From early partnerships with institutions such as Florida International University (FIU) and the University of London, UCC expanded its academic offerings to include executive and doctoral programmes.
UCC adopts its current name
The University College of the Caribbean rebranded as the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean, with the name change taking effect on February 13, 2017.
Institutional accreditation
UCC was institutionally accredited by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ), with effect from November 11, 2019.
Global reach expands
By 2021, UCC’s Global Campus was actively extending access to qualified students regionally and internationally, supported by strategic recruitment partnerships and online delivery.
Continuing to build for the future
UCC is formally recognised as a teaching university by the University Council of Jamaica and is registered by the Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission (JTEC). The UCC/SPECTRUM Group is also developing EcoVista Jamaica, a proposed smart sustainable city in Trelawny that includes a university campus component.
