Program Description

In this interdisciplinary program, a first-of-its-kind to be developed in collaboration by all five UArizona Health Sciences Colleges, you will gain the foundational knowledge of gerontology, and how to advance change in interprofessional settings. The curriculum challenges students to be self-motivated, culturally competent, independent thinkers who take an ethical, humanistic, and interdisciplinary approach to address the unique needs of the aging population. You’ll learn to apply your learnings in real-world activities, participating in the aging community by building upon prior work and sharing knowledge with your peers. You will benefit from innovative learning strategies and instructional technologies like flexible pacing, asynchronous learning, podcast-style content delivery, discussion forums, and motivational badges to mark progress. The certificate curriculum is aligned to the Association of Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) competencies and will provide you with the coursework and experience needed to apply for professional certification through the National Association of Professional Gerontologists (NAPG). Prospective students must have at least either a bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in any discipline or graduate status (e.g. PharmD students).
